The 5th Autumn Star Camp seemed set to repeat the disappointing weather of more recent events until the final night provided a good seven hour observation window.

Once again the event was over-subscribed and by Friday night the campsite thronged  with all kinds of telescopes, tents, motorhomes and caravans.

Earlier in the week night owls (or early risers) awake at 3am were treated to clear spells over two nights and the astonishing spectacle of Venus rising over the tree tops in an inky black sky.  The sheer brilliance of the bright planet was a sight to behold.  Mars also held steady in good seeing conditions.

On Sunday well known UK observer, Gain Lee, used his 18 inch Dob to search the depths of the Universe and shared views of  a quasar in Ursa Major--1634+706.  The object resides at a distance of 8.5 billion light years--but its feeble 15th magnitude light finally made it to Kielder!
