The second Spring Star Camp frustratingly enjoyed excellent observing conditions either side of the main event!
For those who ventured to Kielder a night early there were rich rewards in a chilly transparent sky. Dusk 'til dawn observing was possible with a host of astro-shots the rich bounty. The next two nights were blighted by persistent light rain, but insomniacs found clear slots in the wee small hours.
The final night saw star campers journey to the site of the new Kielder Observatory for the first time at night. And incredibly the sky cleared within minutes after a snow flurry passed through! At an altitude of 1250 feet, only one house light could be spotted over the vast expanse of the Borders. Large patches of sky opened up with stunning views of the winter Milky Way arching through Cassiopeia. The experience whetted the appetite of all star campers.
The main day was well attended, featuring brilliant talks by Paul Buglass and Jurgen Schmoll. Vendors included Astrodevelopments, Rother Valley Optics, AstroTrac and Astro Parts.
